● Note 1: No need for any Handset Lifter if you are using the RD-1 ring detector
The RD-1 ring detector eliminates the need for a separate handset lifter.
● Note 2: Use of APD-80 Cable
The APD-80 cable is used for the physical connection between the wireless headset base and the headset for remote call handling. But this cable does not provide you with ring detection remotely. To get the alert of calls, you need to be close to the desk phone.
● Note 3: RD-1 is Needed for Ring Detection
The ShoreTel phones have built-in remote call handling, but they do not alert you with ring detection. For ring detection for calls, you need RD-1 for ring detection. The Auto Off-Hook preference can be configured by the user.
● Note 4: Some Bluetooth Headsets are also Compatible
Some Bluetooth headsets are also compatible with the ShoreTel phones. To obtain the Hookswitch control, no lifter is needed.
Wired/Corded Headset Solutions for ShoreTel Phones
A wired or corded professional-grade headset solution includes two components: a wired headset and the direct-connect cable or an amplifier.
The connection established between the headset and the telephone via an amplifier or a direct-connect cable is called a quick-disconnect connection. For organizations managing multiple phone brands, exploring our complete range of corded headsets can help identify solutions compatible across different systems.
Quick Disconnect Connection
The quick disconnect connection is established when a headset is connected to the telephone using an amplifier or a direct-connect cable. This connection allows you to leave your headset at all times whenever you want while leaving your headset on. Moreover, you can instantly disconnect your headset from the telephone.
Benefit: Maximum flexibility and instant connection/disconnection.
Amplifiers
Cost: ~$72.00 (MDA524)
An amplifier is needed to connect an H-series headset to the telephones with a handset port. The amplifier is terminated with a modular clip at one of the cables that is plugged into the ShoreTel phone's handset port.
Key Benefit: Amplifiers provide you with complete volume control for your speaker and microphone. You can adjust the volume of the outgoing voice.
Note: Amplifiers are expensive, work only with old telephones having a handset port, and standard H-series headsets.
Direct Connect Cables
Cost: ~$28.50 (U10P or A10)
A direct-connect cable is a cheaper alternative to an amplifier. It is used for establishing a quick disconnect connection between the headset and the telephones with built-in amplifiers and a headset port.
Key Benefits: They are affordable and even less than half the price of an amplifier. The cost can be compared as: $28.50 versus $72 (a direct-connect cable vs an amplifier).
Note: The direct connect cable is not compatible with telephones having a headset port. They do not provide you with volume control over the outgoing voice. It is not recommended for soft-spoken people.

Poly Direct-Connect Cable

Here are some wireless headset solutions needed for ShoreTel phones:
Plantronics CS540 Wireless Headsets
The Plantronics CS540 wireless headset is a lightweight and great-sounding headset enough to meet all your needs. It just weighs 21 grams, and you can find it in over-the-ear and over-the-head wearing options. It lets you hear more clearly with the speakerphone and microphone volume adjustments.
How does Plantronics CS540 Work?
Once you have connected the Plantronics CS540 headset, you are now all set for inbound and outbound calls. Most newer ShoreTel phones feature a headset button, which is pressed to turn on the headset for taking and making calls. Now, you can roam freely about 350 feet.
For remotely answering and hanging up the calls, use the optional HL10 and EHS cable.
How to Initiate Calls Remotely With Plantronics HL10 or RD-1 Ring Detector?
Want to answer the calls remotely? You need an additional component, Poly HL10, i.e., the handset lifter that supports remote call handling when you are away from your desk. But if you want to get ring alerts, this will be possible only with the use of the RD-1 ring detector.
Get notified about the incoming calls with the three beeps by adding the RD-1. After getting notified, take the call by simply pressing the button on the headset.
For remote call answering/ending, you will need Poly HL10 Headset Lifter, Poly RD-1 Ring Detector, or Poly APD-80 EHS cable. Another thing for using the wireless headsets, you need to program your phone's "headset type" to "WIRELESS." This is necessary to allow one-touch operation.
Plantronics CS500 Wireless Headsets
The CS500 series is the standard headset series of wireless headsets for the ShoreTel phones that work well if the phone is the only mode of communication. The headsets of this series are available in different wearing styles and offer you comfort for all day.
Key Features:
• Standard wireless headset series for ShoreTel
• Multiple wearing styles available
• All-day comfort design
• Ideal when phone is only communication mode
Poly Savi Series Wireless Headsets
The Poly Savi series of wireless headsets is compatible with ShoreTel phones as well as PC and Bluetooth phones. The benefit is that someone who wants to contact can contact from any of the above mentioned ways. So your headset is always charged, and you can ensure your comfort for converting one headset into three different styles.
Turn the Headset into Your Audio Device
To join the webinars or online training, you just have to press the PC button on the base, which converts your headset into an audio device for your PC. No more blasting the room with the external speakers while listening to the audio.
The Poly Savi Series can also work with the mobile phones within the office premises. Outside the office premises, this headset series will not work for your mobile phone because of the limited range of the base. Anyhow, the base can be upgraded to work for more communication points, such as PC and mobile phones.
Important Note:
The Plantronics CS500 series and the Poly Savi Series of headsets are compatible with the ShoreTel phones. It all depends on your budget and the specific needs you want to fulfill. To include the remote call handling functionalities, you need to add the Handset Lifter HL10 or an EHS cable.
Note: To enable the wireless headsets for the newer ShoreTel phones, you need to program the phones. Set the "headset type" to "WIRELESS" so that the one-touch operation can be applied.
How to Answer/Hang Up Calls Remotely for Wireless Headsets?
Want to take calls remotely without rushing towards the desk?
You will need either a handset lifter or an Electronic Hook Switch (EHS) cable to enjoy freedom of movement without missing calls. Both alert you about the incoming calls by generating beeps in your headset. Let's see how to take calls using a handset Lifter and an EHS cable.
Answer/Hang Up Calls Using a Handset Lifter
How It Works:
Press the Call control button to initiate the call when you get an incoming call alert using a handset lifter. The ringing line is answered, and you are all set to talk.
Step-by-Step:
Answer Call: Press the Call Control button to initiate the call. The ringing line is answered.
End Call: To end the call, you just have to press the Call Control button again. After this, you can return to your phone to perform other call operations.
How It Works: That's how simple it is to answer and hang up calls using a handset lifter.
Important Note:
Here is a point to note that you have to simulate the call answering by raising the handset. To disconnect the call, you have to put the handset back in its cradle.
Answer/Hang Up Calls Using an EHS Cable
How It Works:
EHS cable lets you answer/hang up calls remotely and eliminates the need for constantly sitting on your desk phone. It does not need any physical movement or mechanical motor to simulate the receiving and disconnecting of calls.
Step-by-Step:
Answer Call: Whenever you are notified about the incoming call, press the Call Control button to answer the call. The call is established electronically, so no need for physical movement like a handset lifter.
End Call: To end the call, press the Call Control button.
Key Difference:
Whether you choose a handset lifter or an EHS cable, both help you to answer calls instantly. They do not let any call go unattended or to voicemail.
